email Your MP: Demand Change to Statutory Maternity and Paternity Pay
Our goal is to trigger a debate in Parliament, we need more than 100,000 petition signatures (we’re nearly there!)—but we also need MPs to speak up. Many don’t know how bad the situation is. That’s where you come in.
Why MPs Need to Hear From You
Right now, statutory maternity pay in the UK is just £184.03 per week after the first six weeks. That’s less than half the minimum wage. It's not enough to live on, and it disproportionately affects women, single parents, and low-income families—often forcing new mothers back to work before they’re ready, or pushing them into debt.
This is a human rights issue. The system is outdated, unequal, and unjust.
When constituents write directly to their MPs, it gets noticed. It starts conversations in Westminster. It creates pressure. And when enough voices rise together, change becomes possible.
